Some three weeks ago we heard about trans activist Darren Rigby, who was jailed after sending death threats to Liverpool girls’ schools, claiming to be en route with a knife and a revolver. “You Terfs are going to learn to stop mocking, deadnaming and misgendering trans women like me,” he wrote. Except the BBC declined to mention any of this. It went against the BBC trans-friendly narrative, so was carefully omitted from their reports. He was presented as just a nasty man threatening schools.

Well, they’ve now apologised.

Update 17 June: This article was originally published without including key details about this case, due to miscommunication between BBC reporters in court and the writers. We have updated the article to explain that these threats were directed at three all-girls’ schools, related to the “misgendering” of trans girls and that Darren Rigby identified in one threat as a trans woman.

We have also included further details from these communications which referred to TERFs, targeting female pupils and staff and included threats to use bladed weapons, a crossbow, a revolver, and poison.

Yes, the trans bit was key – emphasising, quite clearly, how violent misogyny is at the heart of trans activism. But it’s a bit late now from the Beeb, after the case has faded from public view….
