One of the Martin Parr rooms in the Sony World Photography Awards 2017 Exhibition at Somerset House is devoted to some of his early (1980-1983) work: Abandoned Morris Minors of the West of Ireland.

 The original book is out of print, but it's now been reissued in a new limited edition.

    I like the pics although/because they’re a bit miserabilist. In fact, the abandoning of these cars was the result of sudden prosperity. I recall staying in an Irish farmhouse in 1975 where the landlady remarked that the local farmers all had new Peugeots as they were doing so well out of subsidies. The old cars were presumably left to rust. Whereas here in Lewes, forty years later, the Morris Minor is still very much part of life – I saw three yesterday, all on the road, none containing chickens or submerged in a bog.
