This gallery, The Secret Lives of Drummers, by photographer Deirdre O’Callaghan, had a surprise – for me, at least. Here's Leroy Wallace, aka Horsemouth, legendary reggae drummer at Studio One in Kingston:
There's not that many left from reggae's golden age.
Not just a drummer, either. Check out the wonderful 1975 Lee Perry-produced Herb Vendor, with Horsemouth doing the gravelly stoned vocal, rhyming on the delights of smoking a little callie (weed):
"I and I herb vendor, the full charge blender. I surrender to no other gender."
I must still have that single somewhere. A classic of pure Rasta poetry.
There's a 2016 interview with the man here – looking and sounding good.
