aka Dinah Washington, aka the Queen of the Blues. Maybe my favourite of all those great women jazz/blues singers. Possibly Bob Dylan's favourite too: she was the most played artist, along with Tom Waits at ten songs apiece, on his Theme Time Radio Hour show. Featured before, but no apologies for a repeat appearance:

 

From 1959, towards the end of her career (she died in 1963, only 39 years old).

It's not just the voice and the timing: she also was a fabulous performer. Though of course just her voice can be enough: this is wonderful. Or, especially, this.
