Further indication that the implications of the Conversion Practices Bill are gradually getting across to people. From the Telegraph:
Prosecuting parents risks collapsing support for Labour’s conversion therapy ban, a poll has found.
Opponents have claimed that parents could face five years in jail for telling children to accept the bodies they were born with under the current terms of the draft Conversion Practices Bill.
A poll has found support for the bill more than halves if parents are not protected from criminal charges for refusing to use opposite-sex pronouns for their child or withholding consent for medical transition.
It’s a terrible bill. People are hoodwinked by the conversion therapy terminology into thinking that this is about fighting homophobia, and the old-style efforts to “cure” gay people with exorcism or whatever. It’s not That stuff is already illegal: it’s history now. This is all about gender identity: It’s a trans charter, trying to make it illegal to challenge the delusions of a troubled adolescent that they’re somehow “born in the wrong body” – steering them away from discussion and therapy towards irreversible medical intervention.
The more noise made about this the better, so people can see what’s really at stake here. It’s about taking that old “no debate” tactic and turning it into law.
