Julie Bindel on the Conversion Practices bill, as discussed at a fringe meeting at the Labour Party conference a few weeks back:
A Labour MP responsible for scrutinising the Office for Equality and Opportunity and a backer of its draft “Conversion Practices” Bill has suggested that a parent writing a letter to their child saying their gender identity or sexual attraction is “just a phase” is guilty of conversion therapy.
Rachel Taylor MP, who is a patron of LGBT+ Labour, made the comments during a Stonewall fringe event at the Labour Conference with Simon Lightwood, the Minister for the Bill….
Under the draft, parents could receive a maximum penalty of five years in prison for attempting to ‘change’ their child’s trans or gay identification….
At the same meeting, a Constituency Labour Party Officer commented – to audience applause – that the government’s current prohibition on the widespread use of puberty blockers was itself a form of ‘conversion therapy’.
Rachel Taylor MP affirmed her belief that the puberty blocker trial should go ahead and should be available to “as many children as possible”.
Responding to a request for polyamorous identities to be covered, the MP said it was a “valid point” and that she was open to considering whether the Bill should be extended in this manner.
These people are insane.
