A nurse was given a Nazi salute by an NHS colleague after he discovered that she was Jewish, an investigation has revealed.
The incident is one example of a catalogue of anti-Semitic abuse allegedly suffered by Jewish patients and workers in the health service.
The Campaign Against Antisemitism said its investigation, detailed in a new documentary, exposed “the anti-Semitic rot at the heart of our NHS”.
In another case, a surgeon operating on a Jewish cancer patient allegedly told him that Jews killed Palestinian children “for fun”. The consultant allegedly made the remarks while cutting a cancerous growth from the man’s forehead under local anaesthetic….
The documentary also features a Jewish patient who discovered they had been treated by a GP who led a group later banned as a terrorist organisation.
Dr Wahid Asif Shaida was the chairman of the British branch of Hizb ut-Tahrir, using the name Abdul Wahid. The Government proscribed the Islamist organisation in January 2024, saying it was anti-Semitic and “actively promotes and encourages terrorism”.
Dr Shaida was suspended from NHS practice following the ban, but NHS England lifted his suspension six months later.
Of course they did.
Polling commissioned by the campaign group found almost two-thirds of British Jews feared receiving unequal NHS treatment because of their identity.
