From the Times:

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church has said the Kremlin’s vast arsenal of nuclear weapons is a sign of God’s “grace and mercy”.
Patriarch Kirill, who has called the invasion of Ukraine a “holy war” against evil, spoke while delivering a service at a convent near Sarov, the town in which the Soviet Union developed its first nuclear bomb.
He said that God had helped the Soviet Union, in which atheism was an official state policy, to create the bomb in 1949 as an answer to the prayers of St Seraphim, a Russian mystic who died in 1833….
An alleged former KGB spy who is under UK sanctions, Kirill has also that Russian soldiers who die in Ukraine will have their sins forgiven by God. He ended his service at the Seraphim-Diveyevo convent with a prayer for Putin. The Orthodox leader has previously described the Russian president’s long rule as a “miracle of God”.
Oh boy.
