When I ask my mum what happened after the 1979 takeover in Iran, she’d recall that acid throwing was common practice for women who didn't wear hijab.

Because Iranian women immediately protested hijab laws as soon as they went into effect upon the regime's establishment (the first protests being on International women's day in March of the same year) and simply would not comply, the regime used the most depraved methods outside of torture and execution, throwing acid in their faces. To this day, the regime targets young women's faces intentionally as an assault on their beauty, throwing acid in their faces and shooting out their eyes.

There are many women (and men) who protested against the regime during the woman life freedom revolution that have been permanently blinded by intentionally shooting out their eyes and throwing acid in their faces.

As the regime exports its reign of terror across the Middle East through its proxies, remember that Iranians are paying the heavy price for freedom for Iran, the Middle East, and by extension, the whole world. They are our real life heroes, but nobody should have to pay this price, ever.
