Here's Emma Nicholson speaking in the House of Lords today (via Glinner's).

She's talking about Annex B to the government's 2010 pledge that all NHS hospitals should provide single-sex accommodation. In practice, because of this Annex B, the policy is operated on the basis of gender self-identification, and tells hospitals that they must allow people to choose to be in opposite-sex wards if they identify as transgender or nonbinary. So trans women must be housed with women if that is their preference. The policy is under review.

The truly chilling section of her speech – the heart of it, if you like – comes at 10 minutes in. Here's a transcript (click to enlarge):

Nicholson

That's what Annex B and gender self-ID can mean: hospital rape.

“So trans men must be housed with women …”
You’re getting your trans mixed up. It’s trans women (or natal men) who are housed with women.

Thanks for pointing that out. I think we’ve been here before, haven’t we? Yes, stupid of me.
