There could be trouble ahead.

After Labour spent its conference shooting itself in the foot over a foolish devotion to trans rights and gender identity politics, and with the Lib Dems and Greens similarly bewitched, the Tories looked like the only party holding out.

But…

Carrie Johnson will make a rare public intervention at the Conservative Party conference next week where she will give a speech about the importance of defending LGBT+ rights.

The prime minister’s wife, 33, was named guest of honour at the conference Pride reception in Manchester….

Elena Bunbury, chairwoman of the LGBT+ Conservatives, said that Johnson often attended the group’s events and was a proud defender of gay rights. “Carrie is a longstanding ally, and has always been a good sport to LGBT+ Conservatives,” she said. “She even judged our virtual lip-sync last conference. We’re thrilled she’ll be joining us in person this year in Manchester.”

The catch? Here's the catch:

The LGBT+ Conservatives event is being held in partnership with Stonewall, a charity that has been at the centre of a controversy over its scheme for “diversity champions” in government.

Will Carrie try to persuade the PM to buy into the Stonewall ideology? Will she stamp her feet and throw tantrums if he puts his foot down and listens to wiser counsel?

We shall see.
