Photographer Joshua Blackburn claims to have visited all 462 of the remaining launderettes in London, capturing them before they disappear forever from our high streets. Now generally run-down and struggling along, they're a last bastion of retro individuality – and for many of us a nostalgic reminder of those early bedsit years.

There used to be one somewhere round here called Heck of a Wash and now I can’t remember where it was – I htought it was Stoke newington Road but now I’m not so sure. Anyway, I don’t see it from buses any more.

Yes, it evidently was the one on Stoke Newington Road that’s now called something boring – it came up here: https://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/heck-of-a-wash-london-2
but there’s a pparently one in East Finchley, don’t know if that’s still going.

From a brief flick through the index of Launderama, I can’t see any mention of East Finchley. As Hoxton Mini Press state – “Please note: the book features a selection of images from Joshua’s collection, not all 462 launderettes. That would be a very fat book…”
