It's been a while since we had any "grim up north" photos. Here are some from the early Sixties by photojournalist John Bulmer, all featured in his book The North:

Though the North here, as you'll see, includes the Midlands. – ie industrial, grimy, and north of the Home Counties.
Bulmer was a colour pioneer. Maybe I'll do another post featuring some of his colour work.
