Desperately sad news about Norm.

I posted this in July on the occasion of Normblog's tenth anniversary. He wrote to thank me, and suggested a drink next time he came down to London. We already knew he was dying, though, and, well….it never happened. And now it never will.

Here's a fine tribute from Nick Cohen – also included at normfest.

I think I'll pass on my usual Friday morning music post. I'm not quite in the mood.

I knew he was very sick but it never occurred to me that he was actually dying. It was a shock. He was such a fine man.

I’m shocked. I couldn’t believe it when I saw your headline. I was trying to figure it out. I didn’t know Norm was sick. I guess I missed that. I wrote to him recently and in fact I asked him if he had seen an article on your blog and he told me he read it regularly and thought it was great. Gee, I’ve been reading him since 9/11. I wrote him just a few weeks ago to tell him that Ron Radosh had complimented him even as he disagreed with him and I didn’t receive a reply — and he always replied even when I said that he didn’t have to. I guess it’s better to know that someone is ill and might die than to have it slapped in the face.

Now I see Norm started the blog in 2003 so I guess I didn’t read it since 9/11. But around that time.
