Amusing times at CiF. Karen Armstrong is deeply moved by the new British Museum exhibition Hajj: Journey to the Heart of Islam. At last a chance to challenge those Western prejudices:

The hajj, subject of a new exhibition at the British Museum, shows that a respect for other faiths is central to Muslim tradition.

But, strangely, not all the commenters agree with this happy conclusion…

I particularly enjoyed the paragraph ending
Two years later {630AD}, hostilities ceased and the Meccans voluntarily opened their gates to the prophet.
I wonder if the 10,000 strong army standing behind the prophet had any role in the “voluntary” decision.

For once a majority of CiF commentators are talking sense. It takes some sort of genius to make that happen.

Oh yes, the hajj. A pilgrimage to Mecca. A place so tolerant of infidels, they aren’t allowed to set foot there.
