KPA Unit 169 Inspected:

Kim Jong Un, supreme commander of the Korean People’s Army, inspected KPA Unit 169 honoured with the title of the O Jung Hup-led Seventh Regiment.

He was accompanied by KPA Vice-Marshal Ri Yong Ho, chief of the KPA General Staff, KPA Generals Kim Myong Guk, Kim Won Hong and Pak Jae Gyong, and others.

After receiving a salute, he waved back to the soldiers in enthusiastic cheers before having a photo session with them.

It's clear that the Supreme Commander takes the Songun "Military First" policy very seriously. His father, the Dear Leader, was more likely to be found giving field guidance to the likes 0f the Taedonggan Pig Farm or the Kumsong Foodstuff Factory, which at least gave the opportunity for some variation in the reporting. Now the monotony of the constant military visits is reflected in the monotony of the editorial language.

Meanwhile keen Kim Jong-un observers will note (last link) that the Supreme Commander has now abandoned his erstwhile long dark coat in favour of an anorak not dissimilar to the one that the Dear Leader used to wear – though notably smarter:

Supremecommander9-0

"Behold, Comrade Supreme Commander, the bright socialist future of the Songun-based revolutionary country. Now, mind the step…."

KJU has been spotted in an anorak indistinguishable from that worn by his Dad – see

Indeed, I think I’ve seen a picture where father and son are both sporting them. Lots of senior military wear them too. I wonder if they’re Korean-made, or imported?
I’m not sure I’d describe KJU’s outerwear in the photo above as “an anorak”. It looks to me rather like a Norfolk jacket, though I’m not sure it qualifies as it doesn’t have a full belt.

When is an anorak not an anorak?
    [No, I don’t have a punchline.]

When it is a Norfolk jacket?
“Strictly speaking, an anorak is a waterproof jacket with a hood and drawstrings at the waist and cuffs” (Wikipedia). There are some excellent protoypes in the British Museum.
On closer examination, it looks as if the latest addition to KJU’s wardrobe has elasticated cuffs, which further tends to disqualify it as a Norfolk jacket; though on the other hand one would expect some modification in the meme during its transmission from 19th century East Anglia to 21st century North Korea.
