Unsurprisingly, Andre Breton was a fan. Though I don't recall too many laughs in the Surrealist Manifesto. 

Bowers' 1928 comedy short There It Is features Charley MacNeesha, a Scotland Yard detective (with kilt and bagpipes) who investigates the Case of the Fuzz-Faced Phantom, along with his insect sidekick. Gloriously weird. On YouTube here.
