South of the river, for us cyclists, is becoming increasingly hard to reach. The lifts at both ends of the Greenwich Foot Tunnel are out of order, which means having to cart your bike down one load of stairs and up another. And there are a lot of stairs. Well over a hundred, though I try not to count (I am constantly fighting the urge to count things, especially stairs). And they go round and round, and are narrow, so you have to let people pass, and pray that you don't meet another bike going the other way.

Then, once you've made your way along the Thames Path round the O2 Arena or whatever we call it now, past the Thames Barrier to Woolwich, you're confronted with the unwelcome news that the Woolwich Foot Tunnel is being refurbished and will be closed till 2012. So…it's the Woolwich Ferry. A first for me. Not the worst way of crossing the river on a sunny afternoon, I suppose, but time-consuming.

Anyway, today's theme is - Dockland towers with things in front of them. Or, if you prefer, things, with Dockland towers in the background.
