By Grant Wood, better known for his iconic American Gothic. But I like this, painted in 1931:

All sensuous rolling hills and friendly trees. Not what I think of when I think of Iowa, but then I've never been to Iowa. It could be southern England – Devon maybe – if it wasn't for the farmhouse. But a kind of visionary Devon.
