There are two things wrong with this picture: one is the obvious lack of traffic, but really that could be because it isn’t actually rush hour. The second thing wrong is that NK finds it easier to pay a person to stand and direct traffic than it does to install traffic lights.

I’ll admit that my “rush hour” heading was embellishment: I have no way of knowing if it’s rush hour or not. Given the often-reported lack of vehicles on North Korean roads, though, I think it’s quite plausible.

Mick – I wasn’t actually disbelieving the “rush hour” bit – it probably is rush hour in Pyongyang. But the person directing traffic is a striking waste of (wo)manpower. In the UK, that volume of traffic would lead to the intersection being ignored or turned into a roundabout.

I like the geezer who stops at the roadside to watch the traffic policewoman. That’s called loitering without intent.
