Our pop correspondent writes: Sir Douglas was not in fact a titled English gentleman, but Texan Doug Sahm, who thought he'd cash in on the British invasion… [yes thanks, we know – Ed].

He produced some classic Tex-Mex songs…Nuevo Laredo, Mendocino. No matter that they're basically the same tune….

    I thought they were saying “She’s a body move-up”. Never knew what it meant.
    There were a lot of American groups that pretended to be English. One in particular — can’t remember their name — even faked Beatle-like accents in interviews.
