As far as pubs go, Paul Talling beat me to it with his Derelict London website. Three of these establishments are featured there. And the book is now out.

When it comes to shop fronts, though, I lead the way.

    The pubs here in East Angular seem to be changing hands at a hell of a rate.

    I doubt the smoking ban has much to do with it, I lived in Bow and Hackney through the mid-90s and pubs closed then at a timely rate, due to the fact that most had less than a dozen regular customers, the advent of “new Islington” in the middle of the Victoria Park area brought a lot of trendy places to drink at.
