   Whenever someone lists all Scotland’s gifts to the world, we should remind them that Fair Scotia is probably also mother to this caterwauling.

   Cline is one of the few country singers that I really enjoy. Did you know that Willie Nelson wrote this?
   I think she did a few versions of Walking after Midnight. I kind of like this upbeat version:

   In what sense is Scotland the mother of country music? Not saying it isn’t. Just wondering.

   Generally Scottish/Irish folk music is reckoned to be the basis of country music. I reckon there’s a deal of English influence in there as well, but the anti-English bias of the Scots/Irish settlers in the Southern States means it’s down-played. But that’s just my take on it.
