A Saudi judge ordered an Arab youth to memorize chunks of the Koran, the Muslim holy book, after he was caught taking a seaside walk with an unrelated female, local newspapers reported Wednesday.

The unidentified 18-year-old has until the end of the holy month of Ramadan to learn the 30th Juza (part) of the Koran, as well as 40 of the Prophet Mohammed’s Hadiths or sayings…

Men and women who are not closely related are not allowed to mix in Saudi Arabia, and religious police caught the man with the woman in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, the Okaz newspaper said.

It did not say what would happen if the man failed the memory test.
