One Arab dictator honours another:

Libya has said it will build a statue of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, executed in Baghdad on Saturday.

It would show him standing on the gallows with a Libyan resistance leader who fought Italian occupation, executed in 1931, Libya’s Jana news agency said.

Libya declared three days of mourning after Saddam Hussein’s death and cancelled public celebrations around the Eid religious holiday….

Flags on Libyan government buildings flew at half-mast following his death.

“…On the eve of the hanging, Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi said Saddam Hussein was a prisoner of war who must be tried by Iraq’s invaders, the US and Britain, according to Reuters news agency.”
Most Libyans are Sunni Muslims and would likely offer support for the Iraqi Sunni population, but this is very strange behaviour (oh, wait; this is Ghaddaffi we’re talking about). Does he think he’s currying favour with the Arab world? Is he challenging Iran’s leadership? Is he serving some kind of warning to the West? Any thoughts?
Sometimes a statue is just a statue (famous pigeon quotation)

You’ve got to admire Gaddaffi for his sheer lunacy.
One assumes he’s erecting a statue to Saddam Hussein because of his defiance vis a vis the USA.
Hold on, isn’t Gaddaffi the same Gaddaffi who caved in to US pressure over his nuclear weapons programme??? Hmmm …
