In the best overview yet of the Danish cartoon affair, Amir Taheri shows the extent to which it’s been a crisis manufactured for precise political ends. Worth reading in full, and noting his conclusion:

The fight between Denmark and its detractors is not between the West and Islam. It is between democracy and a global fascist movement masquerading as religion.

The article did not mention (and I don’t think you have mentioned yet) that the cartoons were published in Denmark in September, and then reprinted in an Egyptian newspaper in October, or ramadan. There were no riots then. I think Big Pharoah has the story.
Further proof that everything is being manufactured.

Mick – totally off topic, but I recommend Small Town Scribbles “template for MSM columnists wishing to write about the cartoon issue without incurring death threats”.
It’s scarily accurate and very funny. She also has an all purpose template for a Lib Dem scandal that’s good too.
