Ther Thinker has a post about Tony’s current standing:

Labour Party leaders are never very popular with Labour Party members. Party members give grudging acceptance at best, or at worst visceral loathing towards the men they elect to lead them. If you want to hear Tony Blair’s most outspoken critics, the people prepared to call him a liar and a murderer, then pop along to your local Labour Party branch meeting.

Thanks to the internet, that visit to your local branch meeting is no longer necessary. Gerard Killoran comments:

One big hole in your argument – Tony Blair is a liar and a murderer. If that’s the sort of leader you want and admire then perhaps you should examine your conscience.

In case we hadn’t got the point, Killoran elaborates in a later comment:

If the killing of thousands of Iraqiis is not murder, then maybe we should release Harold Shipman. What an amateur compared to Saint Tony. I notice that the issue of Blair’s honesty doesn’t seem worth debating – even his supporters defend him as telling lies in a good cause. By the way have you like me noticed Bliar’s uncanny political resemblance to Charles I?

And again:

Deliberate and unnecessary killing is murder and thus Blair is the moral equivalent of Shipman. The thousands of dead in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Iraq deserve justice and I hope to see their killer put on trial.

Yes, that’s visceral loathing alright.

There is a lot of hate about nowadays – have you noticed it is all coming from ‘ peace activists ‘?Whereas warmongers like me are really quite peaceful and calm. Still, I enjoy watching dictatorships fall, and I didn’t approve of the Taliban. Why so sour, peacemarchers ?
