• But the police hid this, invented evidence to support a decision they had already taken and then lied about it.

“Instead of dealing with the racist extremists in Birmingham who were threatening violence, they lied about the reasons, blamed the Israelis and claimed the Jewish community supported it

This is absolutely devastating for West Midlands Police and the Chief Constable must either resign or be fired.

The police consulted the local mosques, decided they didn’t want to deal with Islamist violence against the Maccabi Tel Aviv fans, so banned the fans and blamed it all on the Jews.

If the regime falls in the next few days it would possibly be the most massive international news short of earth making contact with aliens, and the global impact arguably more seismic than Russia/Ukraine and Venezuela combined.

So it needs to be said emphatically: these protests are not “Israeli-led”. Of course Israel opposes the regime in Iran. How could it not when the constitution of the IRGC is “to destroy Israel and kill all Jews everywhere”.

But this is not a binary choice. You can support Palestinian rights AND OPPOSE the regime in Iran. The bottom line is if you support a regime that murders its own people in broad daylight, kills, maims and shoots women in eyes, you have a problem with your moral clarity.

Thank you for your attention on this matter.

  • From the JC:

New ambassador Husam Zomlot called for ‘immediate, concrete, and consequential measures’ to ‘halt the genocide’ during the opening ceremony.

  • Jo Bartosch at UnHerd on why Stonewall deserves to go broke:

Once a powerful lobby group that reshaped law and public opinion, Stonewall now occupies itself with campaigns of steadily diminishing relevance. Over the past five years, the charity has spaffed millions in taxpayers’ money on causes ranging from an app for reporting LGBTQ+ “hate incidents” to an asexual hub and a suite of resources urging schools to “centre trans students and staff”.

The latter includes transition care plans which demand whole-school compliance; advice that pupils and staff should use whichever facilities they “feel most comfortable” in; guidance on sleeping in the dormitory that reflects a student’s “gender identity”; and the provision of “non-binary” facilities. Since the Supreme Court ruling on the meaning of sex last year, this guidance now appears to sit firmly on the wrong side of the law.

Children have paid the highest price. Data from the-now disgraced Gender Identity Development Service showed that, of those referred, three-quarters of adolescent girls and half of boys were same-sex-attracted. The implications were so clear that clinicians joked there would soon be no gay kids left. Instead of sounding the alarm, successive Stonewall CEOs promoted the myth of the transgender child, endorsing a medical framework in which gender non-conformity and nascent homosexuality were treated not as ordinary human variation but as defects requiring clinical intervention.

Stonewall once existed to challenge the pathologisation and suspicion of homosexuality. Today, it has helped normalise both. The charity’s moral bankruptcy is finally reflected on its balance sheet. It is what happens when an organisation abandons its compass and then acts surprised when it runs aground.

What people will look back on with astonishment is the huge impact Stonewall had in its heyday. Practically every institution, every large business, signed up to the Stonewall doctrine, and held seminars where staff were told about gender replacing sex and the importance of using the right pronouns, and letting people use toilets according to their gender identity. They all signed up to be Stonewall Champions, and waited with bated breath to see if they’d make the grade as leaders. They thought it was the latest thing, after women’s lib and gay rights – but a moment’s thought would have made it clear that this was all bunkum, driven not by a progressive ideology but by misogyny and homophobia. It was the most ridiculous movement I think I’ve seen in my lifetime – here in the west, that is. Our very own Lysenkoism.

    And it’s still not over.

  • The screws tighten in North Korea. From the Daily NK:

North Korean authorities are tightening their grip on daily life through an expanded surveillance apparatus that demands citizens monitor and report on their neighbors. The campaign centers on revamped neighborhood watch units, where officials are pushing systematic mutual surveillance as a core social obligation.

According to a source in North Pyongan province, regional branches of the Socialist Women’s Union of Korea (SWUK) held year-end review sessions starting Dec. 20. The meetings evaluated how well members followed directives from above, including participation in political study sessions and compliance with neighborhood watch protocols.

Officials repeatedly instructed attendees to “keenly watch for behavior that goes against socialist lifestyles.”

“They kept emphasizing that we must raise each other’s awareness and immediately report non-socialist behavior so the enemies’ schemes don’t take root in people’s lives,” the source said.

While authorities have stressed mutual surveillance before, this year-end push signals their intent to make reporting a permanent, normalized feature of community life.

The meetings outlined specific “anti-socialist lifestyles” requiring reports: cohabitation without marriage licenses, illegally renting property, possessing contraband items, and consuming banned foreign media. “Unusual items” refers to goods imported from abroad—particularly South Korea—while banned media includes South Korean films, television programs, and music, all viewed by Pyongyang as regime threats.

The authorities paired incentives with threats to encourage compliance. Those who report anti-socialist behavior can receive material and political rewards, plus opportunities to tour major destinations or Pyongyang.

However, anyone who witnesses violations but fails to report them faces harsh consequences under Article 48 of the Public Reporting System Law: more than three months of unpaid labor, re-education through forced labor, or job termination.

The carrot here – “opportunities to tour major destinations or Pyongyang” – will, I imagine, be a lot less effective than the stick – “more than three months of unpaid labor, re-education through forced labor, or job termination”. But that’s North Korea.

  • Patrick Porter, at The Critic, on Venezuela. Yes, for those who say that China will now have an excuse to invade Taiwan if the US is tearing up the international order – that horse has already bolted. Russia and China haven’t been notably concerned about UN approval.

Really? Where have these concerned folk been? Well before Trump’s kidnapping move, Russia attacked Ukraine, bit off Crimea, tried to murder its president Volodymyr Zelensky, indiscriminately bombed the Syrian rebel opposition and anything in their vicinity, and carried out wet jobs on dissidents and journalists abroad. China oversaw systematic oppression in Xinjiang province, seized disputed territories in the South and East China Seas, and snuffed out democracy in Hong Kong in the dead of night. They demonstrably did not need Trumpian precedents for their barbarism.

    On the other hand:

A certain kind of observer, always attracted to power and its swagger, will applaud the boldness and virtuosity of the Venezuela operation. No doubt if and when the initial triumph turns dark, and becomes a messier, costlier embroilment, they will discover that Trump didn’t send in enough troops, or some other purported tactical blunder.

This latest episode also matters because it reveals that the Trump administration’s rhetorical signals and overt preparations for land grabs and asset stripping can be deadly serious. Canada is not exempt. Europe is not exempt. Greenland is not exempt. It would be foolish to suppose otherwise, or that somehow those on our side of the Euro-Atlantic are historically immune from the predation of a superpower that is unembarrassed to take what it can. We are on notice. And so, we should begin our response with the world as it is, not the morality play some would like it to be.

At the moment, with the installation of Maduro’s former deputy Delcy Rodríguez as temporary president, it looks like Trump has little interest in helping to build a post-Chavez/Maduro democracy, and more interest in getting that oil flowing. But it’s early days.

Potentially the situation should be a great deal easier than Iraq, say, with no Iran next door to interfere, and no history of internecine strife between religious and tribal factions. The people, generally but apprehensively, seem pleased to see the back of Maduro. But there’s a whole narco gangster world there that needs to be dealt with, and there’s no indication that Trump has any inclination to get to grips with the responsibility he’s taken on.

  • Oh dear.

  • The attribution of mental illness to dissidents was a classic technique of the Stalinist Soviet Union. Now in America – where else? – comes decolonising therapy, targeting the mental illness of Zionism.

From the JC, in April 2025:

In the 1990s, as the Aids epidemic ravaged the LGBTQ community, well-meaning members of the mental-health community tried to erase a core aspect of gay identity through the malpractice of conversion therapy.

Homosexuality had long been removed from the US Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). Yet these practitioners attempted to convince the community that they were mentally ill and in need of treatment.

The harm it caused is well-documented. Nevertheless, today, some members of the mental-health community engage in a new form of this pseudoscience that obliterates the Jewish identity and demonises the Jewish people.

The practice is called decolonising (or decolonial) therapy, and it aims to address the psychological impact of colonialism, systemic oppression and historical trauma. It emphasises reclaiming cultural identity, dismantling internalised oppression and healing from colonial violence.

While this framework uses a social-justice framework, it labels Zionism – a key component of the Jewish identity – as a root cause of mental illness, despite its conspicuous absence in the DSM.

For example, at a professional meeting in November 2024, a presenter delivered a talk on decolonial approaches for a serious psychological disorder to an audience of some 900 mental-health practitioners.

In that talk, the presenter included slides for “the colonised mind” that equated Zionism with genocidal tendencies, misogynoir (hatred toward black women), rape culture, and fascism.

The rot seems to have affected the entire American Psychological Association (APA). From the JC today:

Washington’s investigations into anti-Jewish discrimination continue apace. The House Committee on Education and Workforce is now scrutinising the American Psychological Association (APA), which accredits psychological education.

Committee Chairman Tim Walberg’s letter to APA President Dr. Debra Kawahara noted APA “represents more than 172,000 researchers, clinical professionals, professors, and students across the country,” before summarising the problem: “Jewish APA members have reported being harassed and ostracised by their colleagues within the APA and at APA events because of their Jewish identity, their efforts to speak out again antisemitism, and their Zionist beliefs. Members have also stated that their complaints to the association have gone unanswered.”

Walberg further cited a February 2025 open letter from Psychologists Against Antisemitism to APA leaders raising “serious concerns” about “‘insensitivity towards Jews, a lack of concern regarding antisemitism, minimisation of aggression towards the Jewish people, and outright hostility and prejudice towards Jews and Jewish heritage.’” APA-affiliated newsletters have reportedly included defences of, and praise for, Hamas, and “the APA has offered educational credits for members to attend conferences where speakers endorsed ‘violence against Jews and Israelis; antisemitic tropes; Holocaust distortion; minimisation of Jewish victimisation, fear, and grief; and pathologising of Jewish people’s connection to their indigenous homeland.’” Finally, “APA allegedly failed to take meaningful action against a former APA division president who . . . allegedly taught that Zionism is a mental illness, called to ‘destroy Zionism,’ [and] referred to Israelis as ‘genocidal f**ks.’”

    Lovely.
