From the Times – Covid escaped from Wuhan lab, US report finds:

The Covid-19 virus is likely to have escaped from a laboratory in Wuhan by accident, according to an update by the US Department of Energy, contradicting other American agencies which say there is insufficient evidence to prove the theory.

The analysis was part of a classified report by the US director of national intelligence. It marks a change in the department’s thinking having previously said that evidence around the outbreak of the pandemic was ambiguous.

The Wall Street Journal, which first published the story, noted that the department made its judgment with “low confidence”. Different agencies remain divided over the origins of Covid-19 and the pandemic that swept the globe in 2020.

The department’s conclusions, apparently the result of new intelligence, are significant because it oversees a network of national laboratories, including some that perform advanced biological research, similar to work the laboratory in Wuhan was conducting.

The department joins the FBI in saying that the pandemic, which has left nearly seven million people dead around the world, was the result of an accident at the laboratory.

Nearly seven million people dead around the world, and that's just the start of the reckoning as the world, in effect, shut down for a couple of years. You can see why leading virologists have been so determined to close down debate and label any lab-leak theories as wild conspiracy-mongering. If it was a lab-leak, that's one hell of a responsibility they bear for their criminally irresponsible "gain of function" research.
