More grovelling at Cambridge, as the Head of Sociology offers her heartfelt apologies to all those poor students traumatised by the presence of Helen Joyce:
This, let us remind ourselves, is a university supposedly committed to free speech and the exchange of ideas. Helen Joyce, who was invited to speak at Gonville and Caius College, is of the opinion that people can't change sex. It's a view that's in line with modern science – in other words it's a fact – and is supported by the overwhelming majority of people in this country. It's not a view, however, that the powers-that-be at Cambridge want to be heard, as people will be offended: first Pippa and Andrew at Caius, and now this.
Can't any of these academics get themselves a backbone?
As Helen Joyce says, the academic commitment to fair-minded debate is over.
