The legendary Zimbabwean musician died this week at the age of 66.

There's an excellent overview – The songs that defined Oliver Mtukudzi's incredible career – at Music in Africa

Here's Neria, from (I think) last year, with Ladysmith Black Mambazo:

Or, if you prefer, the solo version.

'Neria’ was the official soundtrack of the eponymous 1993 film. The song consoles a widow named Neria who has lost her husband. The single, which is off the album of the same name, has become synonymous with the challenges faced by Zimbabwean widows, such as social ostracism and inheritance disputes.

Mtukudzi rose to fame in the 1980s with that other great Zimbabwean musician Thomas Mapfumo

The esteem with which Mtukudzi is held in Zimbabwe can be gauged by the calls for him now to be awarded national hero status.
