I'm taking these photos somewhat out of context here. They're part of a project by Dutch photographer Claudia Heinermann and journalist Sonya Winterberg to document the lives of the Wolfskinder – wolf children – who disappeared into the Baltic forests at the end of the Second World War to escape the approaching Red Army. Many died, and many more stayed hidden for years.
