Wow – this is a shock.

So many more…
One of the true greats of rock music.

There's this paradox about Lou Reed. He thought of himself as a serious artist, and surrounded himself with avant-garde figures, from John Cale (disciple of John Cage and LaMonte Young) in the Velvet Underground to later companion and wife Laurie Anderson – yet his best-known and certainly best-loved songs are the simple ones like Waiting for My Man, or Sweet Jane, which are rock music at its most basic. His avant-garde artistic efforts, like Metal Machine Music, were generally dire.
Maybe that's why he was so grumpy all the time. What he wanted to be remembered for and what he will be remembered for are altogether different.
