To recap: a number of musicians, including Kim Jong-un's former mistress Hyun Song Wol, were reported six weeks back to have been executed on pornography charges - more specifically, for videotaping themselves having sex and then selling the videos. Given the exploitative and predatory culture around young showbiz women under the late Kim Jong-il, and the Dear Leader's fondness for pornography, there were good reasons for thinking that there may indeed have been such videos circulating. But – and here's where it gets interesting – these unfortunates also happened to have been former colleagues of Kim Jong-un's wife, Ri Sol-ju, leading to the inevitable rumours that there could well be videos of the first lady herself – wife of the peerlessly great leader, light of Mt. Paektu, highly esteemed Marshal etc. etc. – caught in moments of intimacy with other less peerlessly great men. Hence the extreme punishments, and the fury at South Korean media for publicising the story.
And now….
Conservative groups in South Korea have sent balloons over the DMZ carrying flyers showing what purports to be North Korea leader Kim Jong Un’s wife acting in a dirty movie.
This comes following allegations that Kim’s former girlfriend had been executed by the government, supposedly for starring in her own supposed pornographic film. Suspicions immediately arose among North Korea watchers that it was Kim Jong Un’s wife Ri Sol Ju who ordered the execution.
As “proof” that Ri Sol Ju appeared in the film, the groups have sent the image below to North Korea in hopes of embarrassing the North Korean government, among other motives.
The provocation is being strongly condemned by many South Koreans as childish and inflammatory at a time when relations between North and South Koreans are especially tenuous.
Oh I don't know – it seems too good an opportunity to miss. As the man said, all's fair in love and war.
