Big night of football tonight – World Cup play-offs for the last four European places. Much hooting of car horns in the distance, and police sirens. Living not far from Arsenal's Emirates stadium, that would normally signal some major Gunners triumph. Not tonight though. Greece, perhaps? Yes, could be - they've just qualified against Ukraine. Quite a few (Cypriot) Greeks live round here: I still remember the celebrations when Greece won Euro 2004. The Irish? Just equalised against France. Loads of Irish in this part of the world.

Check the BBC….

From Duffy at Finsbury Park via text on 81111: "Nearly overcome with emotion walking past the Algerians down Blackstock Rd! C'mon the Irish!!!"

From anon via text on 81111: "My dad is Algerian, just called me up crying and screaming. Never seen him cry in my 24 years on Earth."

Yes…it's Algerians making all that noise. Hah!

Football, eh? Bloody hell. Sometimes (a lot of the time) I love living here in London. And Slovenia are leading Russia…bit too far from Hampstead, sadly, to hear the wailing and moaning and gnashing of teeth….
