On the eastern side of the Lea the Olympic site is coming on apace, but over on the other side, despite some smart new blocks of flats, there's still plenty left of the old dereliction:
As for the section further down, below Stratford High Street, well, there are plans, but for the moment it's mostly on paper.
For now it remains a post-industrial back-water:
…though you can see the new developments behind, along the High Street:
The only real changes are the graffiti: now Mighty Monkey moves in…
Further down, and across the river opposite Bow Locks (map), is the Twelve Trees Business Park, with its protected gas holders:
This huge site, currently used by National Grid for gas storage, will become a major new visitor destination for London incorporating activities and facilities within the frames of the listed gasholders and connecting Bromley-by-Bow with West Ham.
Eventually there'll be something called the Fatwalk – "a linear riverside parkland route with six kilometres of footpaths and cycleways, new bridges and towpaths" – from the Thames right up to the Olympic Park.
The path along the side of the business park is already in place, though you can't get very far down yet. Here's the view south towards Docklands:
But it's those gas holders I really came for….
