It's shaping up for a wet Easter weekend, so here we go – Ann Peebles with a classic 1974 slice of Memphis soul, from the same Hi studios that produced all those great Al Green sides:

There's a brief studio reminiscence here on the origins of the song (Ann with, I think, Don Bryant, her husband and staff songwriter for Hi, plus producer Willie Mitchell), followed by a live version, with some testifyin'. But really, it's one of those songs where the original studio version is absolutely unimprovable.

I was going to make a sarcy comment about the wrong Bryant and post up a youtube of Ray Bryant. But I can’t find one of him playing his best stuff and I’m certainly not going to impose Misty on a blameless website.
