Rumours of Kim Jong-Il's poor health have been vehemently denied by the North Korean authorities. Now they've released some pictures of the Dear Leader, supposedly attending a football match:

See the full size picture at Shorpy's, and marvel at the strange way in which the dark-suited figures seem to hover two-dimensionally over the autumnal background, casting no shadows (except for the man on the far left's profile, on his neighbour).

What can it all mean?

“What can it all mean?” In the dear leader’s correct application of the Juche Idea, the non-progressive trait of shadow-casting has been banished to allow for increased cement production. Also, ghouls don’t have shadows.

I think it’s genuine. It’s just a lousy photograph and/or one taken with a digital camera with a small sensor (so the image appears flat) that’s bad at resolving lowlights (so the yes-men look like cardboard cut-outs).

Interesting – you could be right I suppose. I was persuaded by Dave at Shorpy’s, who obviously knows a thing or two about photography.
If we learn that Kim’s been dead for the last month or so, that’ll decide it.
