The sun? In London? I say, steady on…
London Fields, above. And below, some chaps cooling off on Stoke Newington Road.

Here are some strange fellows playing a very lovely ragtime tune.

Mick,
Is London Fields a a whites only park or do these people just like to hang out with their own?

Strange question. There were plenty of black and Asians in the crowd, though maybe in this particular shot they’re not in the foreground.

Mick,
I used to live close to Broadway market twenty odd years ago so I would use London Fields regularly. It was popular with all the locals, of all colours. When I was back there recently I could not help but notice that it was peopled by the Shorditch/Hoxton diaspora. (I gather that that Well street is the new Hoxton!)
The people enjoying themselves seem to be the children of ‘Lefties’, the TV series which showed Brixton in the 70s. They might claim to love multicultural London but even when they are surrounded by large populations of ethnic minorities they live separate lives, by choice.

Well OK, I know what you mean. There’s certainly a higher proportion of the young white middle class than there used to be in this area.
