This is a great site – Lost America: Night Photography of the Abandoned West (via). [The photographer, Troy Paiva, has a book out, titled Lost America.] His technique page is worth a read. Basically all the images are long exposure, shot some time around the full moon, with the occasional addition of some coloured flashes (“light painting”). No photoshopping though.
From the locations section:
Many of the locations I shoot are remote and dangerous. Yeah, it makes for fun pictures and stories, but if you do end up shooting in places like this, use common sense and good judgment. Falling through a rotten floor in an abandoned house 50 miles from the nearest person in the middle of the night is NOT fun, ok?
